Sun, Sand, and the Sacred East
Trincomalee (or “Trinco”) is the jewel of the Eastern Province. While the south coast hums with activity, the east offers a more serene, wilder beauty. Known for its powdery white-sand beaches like Nilaveli and Uppuveli, Trinco is also a site of immense religious significance. From the towering Koneswaram Temple perched on Swami Rock to the historic Fort Frederick, it is a city where maritime history meets spiritual devotion.
The night mail train from Colombo Fort to Trincomalee is a popular choice, taking about 8–9 hours. Sleeper berths are recommended for comfort.
Private transfers take roughly 5–6 hours from Colombo. Buses depart frequently from the Bastian Mawatha Bus Terminal in Colombo.
