Experience a short yet exciting Sri Lanka coastal safari tour that combines heritage towns, river landscapes, and wildlife adventures. This 2-day journey from Colombo travels along the southern coastline, visiting scenic wetlands, historic colonial landmarks, and one of Sri Lanka’s most famous national parks.
Your journey begins with visits to turtle conservation efforts near Bentota and a relaxing boat ride through the beautiful Madu River wetlands. Continue to the historic Dutch colonial town of Galle Fort, where you can explore ancient fortifications, charming streets, and iconic landmarks including the lighthouse and Dutch Reformed Church. Along the coast, observe the traditional stilt fishermen of Koggala before heading toward the wild landscapes of Yala National Park.
The adventure continues the next morning with an early wildlife safari in Yala, famous for its leopards, elephants, crocodiles, and diverse birdlife. Optional cultural visits include ancient Buddhist sites such as Sithulpawwa monastery and the ruins of Magul Maha Viharaya before returning to Colombo.

Starting from Colombo, travel south along Sri Lanka’s scenic coastline with several stops before reaching Yala. The journey begins with a visit to the Kosgoda Sea Turtle Conservation Project, where you will learn about local efforts to protect and conserve sea turtles and their habitats.
Continue with a relaxing boat ride through the wetlands of the Madu River. This river safari offers beautiful views of mangroves, small islands, and diverse wildlife while exploring the unique ecosystem of the area. Later, arrive in Galle to explore the historic Old Town and its well-preserved fortifications including Galle Fort, the lighthouse, and the Dutch Reformed Church. Visit the Dutch Hospital Shopping Precinct to browse local goods and shops. Before ending the day, stop at Koggala to observe traditional stilt fishermen before heading to your accommodation for the night.

Wake up early for a wildlife safari in Yala National Park, one of Sri Lanka’s most important protected areas. The park features forests, grasslands, lagoons, and coastal ecosystems that support a wide variety of wildlife including leopards, elephants, crocodiles, and hundreds of bird species. Keep your binoculars ready for wildlife sightings during the safari.
During your visit, there is also the opportunity to explore nearby Buddhist heritage sites. Optional visits include the Sithulpawwa Buddhist monastery and ancient cave rock paintings. If time allows, you may also visit the ruins of Magul Maha Viharaya before beginning the return journey to Colombo.
