A High-Altitude Wilderness above the Clouds
Horton Plains National Park is a hauntingly beautiful UNESCO World Heritage site characterized by montane grasslands and cloud forests. This silent, windswept plateau is home to an extraordinary range of endemic flora and fauna, including the majestic Sambar deer. The park’s most famous feature is the dramatic 880-meter drop known as “World’s End,” offering one of the most breathtaking views in all of Sri Lanka.
The nearest railway station is Ohiya or Pattipola. From either station, you will need to arrange a private van or tuk-tuk for the final 10-15km steep ascent to the park entrance.
Most visitors travel by private vehicle from Nuwara Eliya (1.5 hours). The road is winding and narrow, passing through beautiful tea estates and dairy farms.
